From Client Management
Subject FIN Frame Relay Migration Next Phase
Effective Date 06/29/01
Notice Number CM#0154

This memorandum outlines our plan to move forward to the next phase of our FIN migration project. At this time, we would like to detail our plan to migrate all remaining SNA protocol and SNI leased line users to the FIN frame relay network via IP. Because our plan is rather aggressive, we must complete this phase of the migration by Monday, October 1, 2001. The 3745 controllers will be disconnected at that time, so we will no longer be supporting leased lines after that date.

If your firm still has any combination of or all three of the following processes on leased lines, this memorandum applies to you:

  • 3270 emulation will become TN3270
  • MQM-APPN real-time data transmission will become MQM-IP
  • Batch files via RJE will become FTP files

Information Needed

In preparation to begin migrating SNA firms from their leased lines, we will first need to collect a few pieces of information from each leased line firm. Attached please find an MQM-IP form, an FTP Access Request form and a form to identify a primary and secondary firm network and systems contact. Please complete these forms in full and return them to Client Management via fax, no later than Friday, July 27, 2001.

Once we have collected the necessary information, we can begin preparation to migrate your firm. We will provide you with the following:

  • Destination IP addresses for all processes A User ID and Password for the FTP site
  • FTP Guidelines with dataset of remote printing information
  • IP Conversion Checklist
  • A web link to print an updated Communications Guide. (If you have no Internet access, please call us and we will fax this information to you or place it in your mailbox.)

Once you have received them and you are ready to convert, please call Lisa Amato at (312) 338- 2654 or e-mail lamato@cme.com to schedule a date and time to begin your conversion testing. You will be put in contact with one of our network engineers, who will assist you with connectivity to the FIN.

Following a successful connectivity test, application testing can be scheduled with Farris Oweimrin at (312) 648-4780 or e-mail foweimri@cme.com. Please allow a minimum of two weeks to complete connectivity and applications testing.

In closing, this is a task that we must accomplish by October 1st ; the 3745 controllers are going away and we will not be able to support the leased lines! We ask that you give this project high priority and dedicated staff. For additional information, please contact one of the following individuals:

Karen McCoy (312) 930-4524 For General FIN Frame Relay Network questions.
